After Windows 7 SP1 installation

How to increase disk space after Windows 7 SP1 installation
Windows 7 SP1 will make copies of system files during installation, which will reduce disk space. By removing the copy of the file system, we’ll get one gains valuable disk space. Here is How to increase disk space after Windows 7 SP1 installation :
Disk Clean up drive selection 300x161 How to increase disk space after Windows 7 SP1 installation
Click the Windows icon, then select “All ProgramsAccessoriesSystem ToolsDisk Cleanup“. In the next window, click “OK“. Disk Cleanup will calculate how much space can be cleaned on drive C.

In the next window “Clean up system files” click. Next, the Disk Cleanup start again, this time with administrator privileges. Click in the box for the Drive Select “OK“. This program will calculate how much space can be cleaned on drive C.

In the next window, put a check in front of “service pack backup file” and click “OK“.
Service pack back up files 244x300 How to increase disk space after Windows 7 SP1 installationIt takes several minutes to clean up. By the way : Normally you will only increase about 530 MB of hard disk space (32-bit SP1) or 920 MB (64-bit SP1). In the editorial, significantly higher values are measured, ie, up to about 2 GB.
With a disk clean up, you can also clean up other files that reduces disk space such as temporary internet files and other. Consequently you will increase more disk space in windows 7.

Maxtor/Quantum SCSIMax v1.21 (05.14.2003)
SCSIMax is a diagnostic utility for all Maxtor/Quantum® SCSI hard disk drives supporting Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T). This test will determine hard drive integrity in a short period of time, with a high degree of confidence. If the program completes without error, the problem remains elsewhere in your system. Check SCSI cables, termination and operating system. Maxtor recommends you use this utility for troubleshooting potential hard drive problems. These problems include, but are not limited to: potential hard drive surface media problems (e.g., bad clusters or sectors, partitioning/formatting problems, etc.) and drive recognition problems (e.g. hard drive that is not recognized by the operating system). SCSIMax uses the SCSI controller's ASPI driver to route Int13 commands to the hard drive. The utility is not data destructive, but Maxtor recommends that you complete a full backup of your hard drive before running this utility. Note: Incompatible with Apple® systems, and SCSI Ultra320 controllers. This utility does not run from the Windows desktop.

AMD RAID Setup

http://www.compucon.co.nz/component/option,com_registration/task,register

Introduction:
  AMD host RAID technology is capable of RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD; host RAID is also known as 'BIOS-aware software RAID', when there is RAID capability/logic integrated into the motherboard that use the systems memory and processing power as apposed to a dedicated RAID controller card that has its own processing chip, memory and firmware logic.
Setup:
  This guide goes through the process of creating and managing RAID volumes using both the AMD RAID Utility which is accessed on computer start up and using the RAIDXpert application from within the operating system. For RAID email notification setup please see this knowledgebase article.
AMD RAID Utility:
  The RAID utility is fairly straight forward as creating a Logical Disk is a linear procedure.
1) Press CTRL+F when prompted on startup to enter the utility
2) Navigate the main menu using the numbers for each section; 1 will bring you to the Drive details page. Here you can see which RAID volume/Logical Disk a drive is assigned to as well as other specific drive details. You are also able to erase a selected drive by entering CTRL+H and specifying the number of passes to make on the drive. Press escape to return to the main menu.
3) Menu 2 is where you create RAID volumes; it makes you enter the details in order so it should be fairly simple. Use up/down to change between the different settings and space bar to change the value of the selected setting. Select the RAID type you want; leave Fast Init on if you do not want to wait a long time for it to fully initialize; Gigabyte Boundary rounds the volume down to the nearest Gigabyte so it’s up to you whether you want to enable it or not; Cache Mode is Write-Thru by default and in most cases you will not be able to change it. Change the N to a Y next to the drives you want to use for this volume then press CTRL+Y to save the volume. There will then be a few prompts you have to go through: first it will ask you to press CTRL+Y to set a custom name; it might ask you to press CRTL+Y to confirm the deletion of the MBR, this would be a good idea if you are creating a new volume; it will also ask you to press CTRL+Y to change the volume size, by default it is the maximum available space.
  You are also able to press CTRL+V in this menu to see a list of drives that aren’t assigned to a RAID volume and press enter on a volume to see more details about it
4) Menu 3 is where you delete Logical Disks, not too much to add here as it is rather basic: press delete when selecting the drive you want to delete then confirm deletion.
5) Menu 4 shows you details about the RAID device itself, things like the IRQ number. This page isn’t normally that important.
AMD RAIDXpert:
  For specific information on settings and procedures go to the Help page at the top right of the RAIDXpert interface as it is concise and contains information on every part of the application.
1) RAIDXpert uses a web GUI its layout is shown below:
Image
  The top menu contains options related to the user interface such as language, contact information, logout, help and show/hide event. Choosing to show event will split the Main Page into two sections with the bottom half showing the event log and the top half showing whatever configuration page you are currently on.
2) The Administrative Tools are for configuration of the RAIDXpert application. Inside User Management you can create, edit and delete users; it is mandatory for each user to have a login ID and password, optionally they can also have a display name and an email address used for notifications. Each user has their permissions set here, the permissions include: Creation Rights, Deletion Rights, Maintenance Rights and Notification Rights which apply to the various tasks you can perform inside RAIDXpert.
Image
3) Host Management shows the host machine, click it’s name to bring up it’s details which include IP Address and hostname, the current version of RAIDXpert and the current version of Java Virtual Machine that was installed with RAIDXpert.
4) Utility Management is where you mail server details for notification setup. Try and use a valid email address as the sender to prevent potential issues with the mail server. Enabling the Simplified Backup checkbox will cause it to offer to backup Raid Ready logical devices from time to time, these are just plain single disk volumes with no redundancy. Enabling the System Event Notification will produce notification messages on the host PC’s desktop.
Image
5) The Tree View on the side menu is where you can see information about and configure the controller and the physical/logical disks on your system. In the Controller page you can see the controller’s name, driver version, number of ports it has and the maximum number of physical/ logical drives it can support. In the controller settings tab you can allocate system resource usage for background tasks RAIDXpert performs such as Rebuild, Media Patrol, Synchronisation and so on. There are also some other basic controller settings that you can choose to enable. The Schedule tab of the controller page has a list of all currently scheduled tasks and from here you are able to delete any you no longer wish to run.
6) Under the Physical Drive page you can see important drive information such as what logical volume the disk is assigned to and its status; there are also the Merge and Media Patrol tabs. When a single physical drive’s capacity is used in multiple logical volumes it becomes logically split; when the logical volumes are deleted this split still remains so from the Merge tab you are able to reunite the portions back into a single drive.
  Media Patrol is a process that checks the physical media of the drives sector by sector and attempts to fix any bad sectors. Media Patrol checks all drives apart from new unassigned drives and those assigned as JBOD. It can be performed on a single drive or all physical drives and it can be performed on demand or on a schedule.
Image
7) Other Drive View shows information on things such as DVD Drives
8) Logical Drive View, much the same as Physical Drive View, is where you can view information about Logical Drives and perform or schedule various tasks. Here you can create, delete, rename, initialize new volumes, migrate, rebuild and perform maintenance tasks on the logical drives.
Image
  Migration is where you either change the RAID level or add more capacity to a logical volume; this can be done manually or set to be done on a schedule, at night for example, so as to not effect file access speeds during work hours. RAIDXpert will show you which RAID levels you are able to change a selected logical volume to depending on what spare drives are present, for example to change a RAID 0 volume on 3 drives to a RAID 1 volume you would need 3 spare drives of the same size match the current logical volume's capacity
  Rebuilding occurs when a volume has become degraded due to a failed harddrive or something similar, you can choose to rebuild the volume using another functional drive. You can set RAIDXpert to rebuild a volume automatically upon  RAID degradation as long as there are available hot-swap drives. Important maintenance tasks include Synchronisation and Redundancy Checking. Synchronisation is the process of checking and correcting both data and parity on a logical volume, Redundancy Checking just checks the data and parity and reports any inconsistencies instead of fixing them. Both can be set on a schedule as a routine maintenance task.
9) Spare drive view shows physical drives that have not been assigned to anything yet. Here you can assign them as Hot-Swap drives which means they can be used to rebuild degraded volumes. Also you can choose to make they drive available to any logical volume that needs it or dedicate it to one specific volume.
Special Notes:
- A newly added physical drive needs to be turned into a hot-spare drive before it can be used to rebuild a degraded volume. For example say a 2 disk RAID 1 volume becomes degraded and you remove the failed drive but upon testing it it seems fine. When you reinsert it it will show up as another drive and logical volume so to make the original RAID volume rebuild you need to wipe the reinserted drive and turn it into a hot-spare.

- Using the automated and scheduled features of RAIDXpert you could produce a fairly robust data protection plan as far as host RAID setups go.

This one really has me all but stumped. They don't play with your line out east. All i can think of is the salty air has corroded some wires somewhere and the wind is playing a part by swinging the wire. That's about the only thing that could explain the *selective* packet loss.

You can also do it manually by going into regedit & follow these instructions..

Smart fix allows you to drop your ping by 150
By Sebastian 'gosey' Selin
Jan 13, 2008 00:20
ImageThe fix which only requires you to change 2 small things in the windows registry allows your ping in World of Warcraft to drop by 100-150, and it only takes about 5 minutes to apply.

This fix has been circulating trough various forums for a while, and at first I must say I was a little sceptical about it actually working, but after I heard several friends who tried it successfully, I had to give it a shot and it actually lowered my 200 ping on the European realms to about 70. Basically it's deactivating the nagle algorithm to improve your ping.
Step 1 - TcpAckFrequency
NOTE if you are running Windows Vista this setting may not have any effect - a hotfix is needed which i'm tracking down. This works fine under Windows XP
Type "regedit" in windows "run.." dialog to bring up registry menu
Then find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic
es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

There will be multiple NIC interfaces listed in there, find the one you use to connect to the internet, there will be several interfaces listed (they have long names like {7DBA6DCA-FFE8-4002-A28F-4D2B57AE8383}. Click each one, the right one will have lots of settings in it and you will see your machines IP address listed there somewhere. Right-click in the right hand pane and add a new DWORD value, name it TcpAckFrequency, then right click the entry and click Modify and assign a value of 1.

You can change it back to 2 (default) at a later stage if it affects your other TCP application performance. it tells windows how many TCP packets to wait before sending ACK. if the value is 1, windows will send ACK every time it receives a TCP package.

Step 2 - TCPNoDelay
This one is pretty simple (Discussed here)
Type "regedit" in windows "run.." dialog to bring up registry menu
Then find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Paramet
ers
Right-click in the right hand pane and add a new DWORD value, name it TCPNoDelay, then right click the entry and click Modify and assign a value of 1.
Click Ok and close the registry editor, then reboot your PC.

Get away from the current one, as most people never change it from the default for their router (and it's usually the same), so you could easily see it getting filled up with a lot of other people's traffic
----------------------
A reason you could have a bad connection is that you're downloading something & its taking up bandwidth, or maybe someone in your house is downloading something.
Worst case scenario if nothing fixes it try switching your ISP.
------------------------
The only way you can get a workaround is to phone your ISP and ask them specifically to change your link onto a less populated one, or to ask them to look into traffic shaping. (This involves using WireShark or similar program/s to flag internet packets as games / p2p / streaming etc, and give priority to the most important.) In this case that would be gaming.

Do the following steps:

A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then click on Security tab disable SPI Firewall Protection, un-check Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...

B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

Then check the connectivity..

AMD Accelerated Processing Units

what is an apu

The CPU has been the heart of every PC since Intel’s x86 processors became popular over two decades ago. Yet the CPU does have weaknesses,the greatest of which is their relatively linear data execution. Graphics processors, by comparison, consist of many small cores that execute data simultaneously. This makes it easier for them to perform certain tasks, like video decoding and 3D graphics.
Both Intel and AMD know this, and have for some time. In response they’ve combined the strengths of both CPUs and GPUs, resulting in a new type of product called the APU.

APU Architecture

what is an apu
What is an APU? The term APU stands for Accelerated Processing Unit. At the moment, this is a term that only AMD is using for its products. Intel’s recently released update to its processors also qualifies as an APU; Intel simply seems unwilling to use the definition. That’s understandable, since the company has been known as the world’s leading CPU maker for years.
An APU is simply a processor that combines CPU and GPU elements into a single architecture. The first APU products being shipped by AMD and Intel do this without much fuss by adding graphics processing cores into the processor architecture and letting them share a cache with the CPU. While both AMD and Intel are using their own GPU architectures in their new processors, the basic concepts and reasons behind the decision to bring a GPU into the architecture remain the same.

The Benefits Of An APU

AMD and Intel wouldn’t go to the trouble of integrating a GPU into their CPU architectures if there weren’t some benefits to doing so, but sometimes the benefit of a new technology seems to be focused more on the company selling the product than the consumer. Fortunately, the benefits of the APU are dramatic and will be noticed by end users.
what is an apu processor
Obviously, improved performance is one advantage. The graphics placed on current APUs are not meant to be competitive with high-end or even mid-range discrete graphics cards, but they are better than previous integrated graphics processors. Intel HD Graphics 3000, the fastest graphics option available on the company’s newest processor, is two to three times quicker than the previous Intel HD Graphics solution, which was on the processor die but not integrated into the architecture. This also makes it possible to include new features, like Intel’s QuickSync video transcoding techology.
Another advantage brought by APUs is improved power efficiency. Integrated the GPU into the architecture makes it possible to share resources and achieve the same results with less silicon. This means an APU can replicate the performance of a system equipped with a low-end discrete graphics card while using far less power. Early benchmarks of Intel Sandy Bridge and AMD Fusion laptops make this advantage obvious; systems equipped with these processors have better battery life than similar system saddled with a CPU and a separate discrete or integrated graphics processor.

Should You Buy One?

Now you know the benefits of an APU, you may be thinking about purchasing one of these fancy new processors. Upgrading to a new processor is never inexpensive, however. Is an APU worth your money?
The answer is yes, but on the other hand, it doesn’t matter if you upgrade now or later. You are, eventually, going to end up owning an APU no matter what you do. All of Intel’s processors from here on, with the exception of the Atom processor, will be APUs. AMD’s entire line of processors will be updated to APUs by the end of this year. And Nvidia, which recently announced intentions to create a line of ARM processors for desktops, will of course be creating an APU.
In fact, you may want to wait, if only because this technology is relatively new. Both Intel and AMD are hard at work on new products that further leverage the advantages of this design, and AMD’s desktop APU is unlikely to become available before the summer.

Conclusion

The APU is the future of processor design. The only question at this point is the term itself. While Intel’s new processors also fit the definition of an APU, the term APU is only used by AMD in its marketing. If Nvidia also decides this is a term worth using as it develops its new processor it may have some legs. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be surprised if Intel uses its considerable marketshare might to squash it.
But whatever this new generation of hardware is called five years from now, the results are the same. APUs are here, they’re awesome, and they’ll make it easier for users to enjoy media without consuming unreasonable amounts of power.

Enable Now
Select this option to enable the selected connection. By default, only PVC 1 is enabled. The other seven PVCs are disabled. You must enable them before configuring layer 3 connections on top of them. To configure the PVC settings separately from the Wide Area Network (WAN) connections, you can save the PVC settings separately. Click Save PVC.

NOTE: PVCs are layer 2 (physical and link), while WAN connections are layer 3, meaning IP and Point-to-Point (PPP) connections. For each PVC, you can configure up to one IP connection and up to four PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) connections.

Connection TypeConfigure the appropriate encapsulation method of the WAN connection. Each Basic Setup screen and available features will differ depending on which encapsulation method you select. These are the available methods:
IPoE (RFC2684 Bridged)
IPoA (RFC2684 Routed)
PPPoE (RFC 2516)
PPPoA (RFC 2364)

Common Settings Primary DNS
Primary DNS server IP on this connection, used to manually override DNS settings from DHCP client.

Secondary DNS
Secondary DNS server IP on this connection, used to manually override DNS settings from DHCP client.

NAT
To use Network Address Translation, keep the default Enabled. Otherwise, select Disabled.

http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/how-to-fix-stop0x000000f4-blue-screen-error-in-windows/

We knew it was not a software issue because we have a bunch of identical machines, all with the same software configuration. Hence, we had to make a call to good ol Dell technical support.
Note that recently we had installed a new hard drive into the computer and starting getting these blue screen errors a few days later. While talking with the Dell rep, he had me do all kinds of stuff!
Firstly, I had to un-plug the computer, and pull out the monitor, keyboard and mouse cords.   After that, we removed all the memory, plugged everything back in and rebooted. Same blue screen!
We then took out and replaced other parts of the computer, rebooting and unplugging the computer each time we took something out or put something back in.
Finally, I took out the CMOS battery (the small round battery on your motherboard), rebooted, then re-installed it, and rebooted the machine again. It fixed the problem! So this STOP error is related to either a low CMOS battery or simply having to take it out and put it back in.

Next time you add some new hardware to your computer, you have get this error because the components do not get configured properly during the install. Removing and reinstalling ensures that the device can reconfigure correctly with the new hardware.
Other strange errors I’ve gotten include The location that you specified does not contain stored information relating to the File and Settings Transfer Wizard.
------------------------------------
Error STOP : 0X000000F4 SOLVED
I was often receiving the above error code hanging the PC, creating havoc on the FAT and even preventing me from reinstalling Windows XP home edition.
A thorough search of all the posts I could find on the web convinced me to do the following AFTER having disconnected the pc, removed all the cables connected to it and put on surgical gloves (or similar light plastic gloves) in order to avoid short circuiting anything or applying finger prints on anything:
a) remove the graphic card, the memory sticks, the CMOS battery and disconnect the data and power cables of the hard disk(s);
b) with alcohol and cue tips, clean all the electrical contacts of the graphic card, the memory sticks, including both sides of the CMOS battery, plus the data and power contacts of the hard disk(s);
c) with a plastic stick or any non metal thing, pull the the U shape pin of the CMOS receptacle upward so that it subsequently sits at ¼ inch higher than before in order to allow a firm contact with the underside of the CMOS battery;
d) remove all the dust present in the PC;
e) with a volt meter, check the voltage of the cable(s) coming from the power supply and leading to your hard drive(s). Usually, on the power supply, you will find a sticker indicating the voltages you should have. On my power supply, it shows that one of the wires of the connector(s) must indicate +5 volt DC and another +12 volt DC. If the readings of the volt meter are inconsistant with the voltages shown on the power supply sticker, it indicates that you will need to replace your power supply, most probably;
f) check all the cables inside the pc to make sure that they are all solidly connected;
g) reinstall everything inside and out and reboot the pc;
h) since the CMOS battery has been removed for a while, your BIOS will automatically boot the PC to the default settings. Therefore, upon booting, select to immediately have access to the BIOS in order to reselect the configuration settings you had before the whole process;
i) as expected, Windows will boot without any problem.
j) Subsequently, to make sure that your FAT (file allocation table) is updated accordingly, proceed to immediately do a CHECKDISK, followed by a defragmentation of your hard disk;
k) I did all this and now my PC works as good as new and I did’nt even loose any data files or programs I already had on it. Best of all, after eight days of use, I have not seen any error;
l) I wish you all well. As Winston Churchill once said; “excuse me for this long “letter”, I did’nt have time to write a shorter one”.
 ----------------------
I had exactly the same blue screen. My computer started to reboot randomly every 1 or 2 days then 1 or 2 times a day until I couldn't boot windows. I didn't make any hardware or software changes for months and didn't believe it could be hardware. First I thought it might be a temperature or overclocking issue but the temperature was always cool since I had 2 fans and verified they worked OK. Also, I had the same overclocked configuration for more than a year I that I use to do some very intensive processing, but never had any problem with this before.
I bought a brand new HD and installed windows from scratch but the same problem came up only a couple hours later.
Trying to fix the problem, I worked on it for almost an entire week using HD tools or chkdsk in vain. After a lot of research I found this page. :) Then, I disabled automatic reboot on system error and saw that blue screen. Eventually, I saw the Windows system event logs and saw a lot NTFS errors accessing a specific drive. Then, I knew it had to be the CMOS or the SATA Cable. I followed these steps:
- Disconnect/Connect CMOS battery and reconfigure BIOS settings again based on defaults
- Replace "ALL" SATA Cables and reconnect all drives
- Run HD Diagnostic tools (Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics) to fix already corrupted data on HD.
Finally, the 500 GB HD I thought I was going to throw in the garbage is working perfectly and without damaged sectors.
