FreeRADIUS et all

The FreeRADIUS Project
Authentication, Authorization and Accounting server
FreeRADIUS is a high-performance and highly configurable RADIUS server. It supports many database back-ends such as flat-text files, SQL, LDAP, Perl, Python, etc. It also supports many authentication protocols such as PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP(v2), HTTP Digest, and EAP (EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS, PEAP, EAP-TTLS, EAP-SIM, etc.). It also has experimental support for Cisco's VLAN Query Protocol (VMPS) and DHCP.

FreeRADIUS includes a RADIUS server, a BSD licensed client library, a PAM library, and an Apache module. In most cases, the word FreeRADIUS refers to the RADIUS server.
FreeRADIUS is the most widely deployed RADIUS server in the world. It is the basis for multiple commercial offerings. It supplies the AAA needs of many Fortune-500 companies and Tier 1 ISPs. It is also widely used in the academic community, including eduroam. The server is fast, feature-rich, modular, and scalable.
The server has reached a stable Version 2.2.0 (sig) , with incremental improvements added in every release.

Open1X is an open source implementation of the IEEE 802.1X protocol. This project includes support for the supplicant, while other projects (e.g., FreeRADIUS) provide support for the authentication server.
