He revisado, y aparentamente era un cable s-ata, supuestamente estaba dañado. Lo cambie y el Event Viewer no me presenta más el error, ni tampoco se presenta la lentitud del sistema.

Yo tuve ese problema y me dió muchísimos dolores de cabeza durante dos semanas... cada vez iba empeorando hasta que se volvió insoportable porque en algún momento no podía ni transferir un archivo o ver un vídeo sin que se congelara el SO (Windows 7).
En el Visor de Eventos - Registros de Windows - Sistema
Error ---- Atapi: El controlador detectó un error de controladora en \Device\Ide\IdePort2.
Intenté de todo (incluso lo que aquí mencionan - cambio de cables):
Formateo de PC, deshabilitar DVD y cualquier otro hardware q pudiese estar causando inestabilidad, Revisiones exhaustivas de Memoria RAM y Disco Duro (de todo tipo de pruebas: scandisk, particionado, chequeos a bajo nivel, SeaTools, etc.) y el HDD no presentaba ningún problema en los diagnósticos ni físico ni nada, tampoco la memoria... pero el SO seguía congelándose incluso con el cambio de cables SATA-II.
Al final, con algunas pruebas intuí que el voltaje de la Fuente de Energía podía ser el problema, y resultó que efectivamente, con el cambio de la Fuente se solucionaron esos problemas.
