Pirated copies of Windows 7 will get Updates
A surprising move by Microsoft will allow pirated copies of Windows 7 to continue to receive Windows Updates, including security patches and Service Packs. Previous copies of Windows required the user to verify they were running a genuine version of Windows before receiving such updates. Director of Windows Client Enterprise Security Paul Cooke gave the following statement to Maximum PC:
This doesn’t mean Microsoft will be treating pirated versions of Windows the same as genuine versions. Pirated versions of Windows are not expected to be eligible for Microsoft “goodies.”Read more
