Any Linux distribution that supports Hyperthreading should recognize additional cores on each AMD64 dual-core processor, though due to differences not all cores on all processors may be recognized.

All device drivers must be 64-bit.  32-bit device drivers don't work.  Make sure you have 64-bit drivers for all the devices in your system.  This includes the chipset on your motherboard.
